Works of Art in Lacquer, Gilding, Penwork and Faux Finishes

Penwork is distinguished by its exquisite detail and shading executed in India ink with a fine quill pen, preferably raven or goose.  Classic penwork used black ink on a white surface.  Illustrated below are variations created by artist Marena Nellos using brown, black and green inks on gilded surfaces.  Penwork is one of the few decorative arts still performed strictly by hand.
